Discovery through education essential to brain research donor

Colin Illingworth’s passion for learning and education will fuel the next generation of inquisitive minds after his estate bequeathed more than $310,000 to UQ’s Queensland Brain Institute (QBI).

Mr Illingworth passed away in February 2022, with the gift made in honour of his late wife, Mrs Coigue Huttom, after he visited QBI in 2018.

This generous gift will drive QBI researchers as they continue to explore the mysteries of the brain and the diseases and disorders which impact it.

Mr Illingworth attended The Church of Grammar School (Churchie) in Brisbane before enrolling at The University of Queensland (UQ) where he graduated with a Bachelor of Dentistry in 1953.

Mr Illingworth reconnected with UQ prior to his passing through Probus – a retired professional’s group, which organised the tour of QBI’s research laboratories.

These two organisations – Churchie and UQ – laid the foundation for Mr Illingworth’s strong connection with the benefits of education and he chose to divide his estate between his two alma maters, leaving a lasting gift and meaningful reminder for future generations.
