QBIC's Gold Coast Roadshow fosters community collaboration

28 May 2025

In May 2025, QBI's Queensland Brain Injury Collaborative (QBIC) hosted the inaugural Gold Coast Clinician Roadshow.

This cross-disciplinary event was attended by over 60 clinicians and healthcare professionals, and featured focused talks from local experts, interactive discussions, and real-world case studies on brain injury care, from acute treatment to community reintegration.

Our special thanks to The National Injury & Insurance Scheme Queensland (NIISQ), the Queensland Trauma Clinical Network (QTCN), the Queensland Trauma Data Collection team, the Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service (GCHHS), and to each of our guest speakers for helping to make this event a success.

QBIC Director, Associate Professor Fatima Nasrallah, was excited by the turnout of people across the heath sector and believes the event will foster greater collaboration across brains researchers and clinical practice.

“The Gold Coast Roadshow builds on the success of our previous QBIC roadshows in Cairns, Townsville and Toowoomba,” said A/Prof Nasrallah.

“It strengthens our commitment to regional outreach and drives partnerships that will improve the lives of people living with brain injury.”

The QBIC Community Roadshow event was also held earlier in the day at the Parkwood Arundel Community Centre, organised in partnership with The Brain Injury Community (TBIC).

This free public event was attended by over 80 community members, support workers, and consumer advocates, providing much-needed opportunities for community members to connect. The event showcased local support services through information sessions and exhibitor stalls, as well as a lineup of guest speakers who shared their unique lived experiences.

“I’m so glad there’s something like this, I could actually understand it all. There was so much great information.” – event attendee

“Research is the path forward to answering long-ignored questions, and consumers must help shape that process,” Angela Kalantzis from The Brain Injury Community said.

“From how questions are asked, to where and how long focus groups run — every detail impacts us. Our input isn’t just valuable — it’s essential.

Special thanks and to all our guest speakers and exhibitors for their wonderful support.
