The Hand Heart Pocket - The Charity of Freemasons Queensland - Gala Evening will bring together some of the world’s leading musical performances in support of Alzheimer’s disease research and care.
The spectacular Gala program will be presented at the iconic Customs House on September 5, opening with the Theme and Variations from the well-known “Trout Quintet” played by ‘Cerebrum’ a string quartet consisting of the Conservatorium and The University of Queensland’s finest string players.
The Operatic Repertoire will include Madame Butterfly's dramatic and captivating “Un Bel Di” to be sung by the winner of the Covent Garden and Metropolitan Opera Scholarships, Zara Barrett, who is performing the principal role of Turandot for Australian Opera 2015.
Guests will also be treated to Queen of the Night's stratospheric arias from Singapore Lyric Opera soprano Cherylene Liew, and experience the depths of the vocal range with Sarastro played by basso profundo David Hibbard, he will be accompanied by the male voices of the Conservatorium Chamber Choir.
This event supports the work of the Queensland Brain Institute (QBI) and Alzheimer’s Australia (Qld), who play a significant role in the continued success of the combined battle to understand Alzheimer’s disease and to support those affected.
QBI Director Professor Perry Bartlett said the event is an integral way to support the research into Alzheimer’s disease research in Queensland.
“We’re enormously enthusiastic about our partnership with the Queensland branch of Alzheimer’s Australia,” Professor Bartlett said.
“Together we’re ensuring the work done at the Clem Jones Centre for Ageing Dementia Research at QBI is rapidly translated into better health outcomes for people living with Alzheimer’s in Australia,” he said.
“With a new case of dementia diagnosed every six minutes in Australia, the need for groundbreaking research and a suite of services to assist people living with dementia, is critical,” said Victoria Beedle CEO Alzheimer’s Australia (Qld).
“Dementia is the third leading cause of death in Australia and there is no cure – for this reason we are delighted to partner with the Clem Jones Centre for Ageing Dementia Research at QBI.”
