Title: Confirmation bias, false syllogisms and straight out nonsense: a critique of research and beliefs with worked examples from our current studies.
Abstract: Our lab works on building knowledge about human neurodegenerative diseases to improve diagnostic accuracy and inform mechanistic understanding of how these diseases affect the brain. Because all of our work involves humans with diseases, and we are often focused on young-onset disease and less common phenotypes, it can take some time to build numbers to a critical level to answer research questions. As such, we tend to have a range of projects running in different diseases in parallel. I shall discuss some of our recent finding with brain imaging, in Lewy body diseases and in frontotemporal dementia.
About Neuroscience Seminars
Neuroscience seminars at the QBI play a major role in the advancement of neuroscience in the Asia-Pacific region. The primary goal of these seminars is to promote excellence in neuroscience through the exchange of ideas, establishing new collaborations and augmenting partnerships already in place.
Seminars in the QBI Auditorium on Level 7 are held on Wednesdays at 12-1pm, which are sometimes simulcast on Zoom (with approval from the speaker). We also occassionally hold seminars from international speakers via Zoom. The days and times of these seminars will vary depending on the time zone of the speaker. Please see each seminar listed below for details.
