Title: "Estimating the Global Burden of Mental Disorders: Current Status and Future Directions"

Abstract:

The Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2019 (GBD 2019) estimated the epidemiology and burden of 369 diseases and injuries, which included mental, substance and neurological disorders. These disorders are leading causes of disease burden within the GBD study. Detailed and current information on the scale of the impact of these disorders are required to meet the health demand of populations in a way that emphasizes health systems transformation. In this presentation you will hear from the team responsible for estimating the prevalence and burden of mental disorders by location, age, sex, and year in the GBD study.  They will summarise fundamental GBD principles, the burden estimation process for mental disorders, GBD 2019 findings for mental, substance use and neurological disorders, implications of this work, and ways forward.

About Neuroscience Seminars

Neuroscience seminars at the QBI play a major role in the advancement of neuroscience in the Asia-Pacific region. The primary goal of these seminars is to promote excellence in neuroscience through the exchange of ideas, establishing new collaborations and augmenting partnerships already in place.

Seminars in the QBI Auditorium are held on Wednesdays at 12-1pm, which are sometimes simulcast on Zoom (with approval from the speaker). We also occassionally hold seminars from international speakers via Zoom. The days and times of these seminars will vary depending on the time zone of the speaker.
