Brisbane Jazz Orchestra

BRISBANE JAZZ ORCHESTRA is a professional 19 piece Brisbane-based big band led by Rob Anders (trombonist), featuring award-winning vocalist, Ingrid James, Chilean percussionist, Pablo Matus and Queensland’s top session and live musicians/educators. Performing a mix of instrumental and vocal repertoire, this big band was founded over a decade ago. BJO has a diverse repertoire, which pays homage to the wonderful classics from the Great American Songbook, Modern Jazz Songbooks, to the infectious rhythms and melodies from South America (Brasil, Cuba, etc.,). The arrangements and some original materials are sourced from within the group, as well as, other notable international and national arrangers. BJO has performed for many years at the Brisbane Jazz Club, Queensland Multicultural Centre, Spiegeltent (as part the Brisbane Festival) as well as various other festivals and corporate events. They are known for their diversity of feels and grooves from classical overtones to swing, cha cha chas, calypsos, boleros, salsas, mambos, bossanovas, sambas through to funk. When dressed in tuxedos and formal dress, BJO presents similar to a big band in the jazz era of the 1950’s. They live up to their motto “Music to make you feel so good!”.

About Lexus Alzheimer's Gala

Every three seconds, someone in the world develops dementia. Almost half a million Australians live with dementia, and this figure is expected to grow exponentially by 2050. Now Australia’s second biggest killer, it rivals cancer as the most feared health condition in the nation.

Recognising that dementia is one of society’s most pressing health problems, UQ’s Queensland Brain Institute (QBI) is committed to advancing dementia research. Home to more than 100 world-leading dementia experts in our Clem Jones Centre for Ageing Dementia Research (CJCADR), our scientists are focused on translating QBI’s advanced research into clinical treatments and interventions that will transform lives.

This event celebrates the collaborative efforts of all those working to advance understanding of the brain and better support Australians to age well. Join us and make a memorable contribution that will help CJCADR improve the lives of millions of Australians living with dementia and other brain disorders.
