As 2021 draws to a close, I would like to sincerely thank you for your support and pass on our warmest wishes to you and your family and friends. The Christmas message is one of great hope.
The onset of a global pandemic has shone a beacon on the importance of science and its potential to change the world. The lessons learnt from COVID-19 have given us more hope for the future as the combined will of the international medical research community ultimately produced not one, but several vaccines for use in fighting this pandemic.
At the Queensland Brain Institute (QBI), we are most proud of our ability to bring creativity and collective brainpower to life. Our discovery research has endless possibilities and offers hope to millions worldwide as it expands our understanding of the brain and generates ideas that drive translational research to address brain disorders, diseases, and injury.
This short video captures a handful of the success stories from the past year and the enterprising QBI researchers working here to make the world a better place.
To QBI researchers and staff, thank you for your tenacity and compassion this year. Thank you for seeking to further our understanding of how the brain works, what makes it vulnerable to disease and disorder, and how we can improve its treatment, recovery and resilience. I am grateful to work with such a talented team dedicated to our shared purpose. There are many people to thank, including the UQ senior executive and the members of our Advisory Board, who have provided invaluable leadership and guidance this year.
To our donors, thank you for sticking with us this year. Without your support, we could not make such a positive impact on brain health. The pursuit of knowledge is a long game but so rewarding. The journey is far from over, and we look forward to the possibilities that lie ahead in 2022.
Wishing you a safe and relaxing holiday season.
Best wishes,
Professor Pankaj Sah
Director, QBI
