Research approach

The Götz Lab, based at CJCADR, aims to understand how two molecules, tau and amyloid, contribute to Alzheimer’s disease both separately and synergistically. As part of these efforts, the team develops and improves anti-tau antibodies.

A second focus is in developing low-intensity therapeutic ultrasound into a treatment modality for Alzheimer’s disease and other brain diseases, both as neuromodulatory tool and by transiently opening the blood-brain barrier. The later strategy is combined with the focal delivery of therapeutic antibodies and other therapeutic agents.

The team has successfully deployed a custom-built investigational ISO13485-certified ultrasound device into a safety trial and is currently working towards conducting an efficacy trial, using a second-generation device.
