A transdiagnostic framework for understanding psychopathology after traumatic brain injury
Mental health challenges following traumatic brain injury are common, complex, and poorly served by traditional diagnostic frameworks. In this seminar, Dr Gershon Spitz presents a transdiagnostic perspective on psychopathology after TBI, drawing on the HiTOP-TBI framework to examine how cognitive, emotional, and behavioural impairments interact and compound one another following moderate to severe injury. Moving beyond categorical diagnoses, this session explores the prevalence and interplay of depression, anxiety, and emotional dysregulation after TBI, and what a transdiagnostic lens means for assessment, treatment planning, and rehabilitation service design.
