Chronic Pain After Moderate to Severe Traumatic Brain Injury
Chronic pain following traumatic brain injury is common, disabling, and poorly served by the existing treatment evidence. Drawing on her systematic review and meta-analysis of pain prevalence after moderate to severe TBI, Dr Regina Schultz presents both the epidemiology and the clinical response, examining how pain interacts with cognitive impairment after injury. This session explores the pooled prevalence of bodily pain and headache at three months or more post-injury, what the thin treatment evidence base means for clinicians today, and what the Be Pain Smart Clinic model suggests for screening, referral pathways, and rehabilitation service design, including outside metropolitan centres.
