Brain Injury and Addiction: The Overlooked Connection

After a brain injury, the systems that manage reward, impulse and habit do not work the way they used to. Addiction is a medical condition – not a moral one – and researchers are now starting to understand how brain injury reshapes the brain and makes it more vulnerable to addictive behaviours. These findings are starting to transform how people are treated and supported.
