QBI Discovery Advisory Board
The QBI Discovery Advisory Board is fundraising to support the QBI Brain Research Endowment Fund.
Liz Brunetto
Elizabeth Brunetto, GAICD, MOrgL, Member of the QBI Discovery Advisory Board, QLD Employer Partnership Manager, UniSuper
Liz has more than 25 years’ experience in financial services with corporate and not-for-profit industry superannuation funds, and in employee benefit consulting, having worked in stakeholder engagement, business development, corporate communications and strategic marketing roles. She currently works in the university sector, and holds a Masters of Organisational Leadership. Liz is an ardent supporter of the research being undertaken by QBI to find treatments and improve recovery for those affected by brain function disorders. She aims to do this by contributing to the board’s purpose to raise funds and increase corporate awareness of the world-class research taking place at QBI. Liz sits on an independent school Board, and several Advisory Boards.
Lavinia Codd
Lavinia completed her PhD in the lab of Emeritus Professor Perry Bartlett at QBI investigating ways to stimulate the production of new neurons to improve cognitive recovery in an animal model of stroke. Lavinia has joined the QBI Advancement team and is passionate about supporting the importance of fundamental science research.
Lavinia began her working life at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where she became a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. She worked in both the Brisbane and South London offices of PwC, as well as the London office of the Swiss Bank Corporation, and The Walt Disney Company (Australia) in Melbourne. Embarking on a career change, Lavinia returned to UQ to study science before joining QBI.
Andrea Markey
Andrea Markey, is the Deputy Director of Advancement at QBI. Andrea is a communications and public relations specialist with over 20 years experience in the professional services and not-for-profit industries. She has broad experience in internal and external communications, event and project management, editing, content creation, speechwriting, profile building, communications strategy and media relations.
Andrea worked for over eight years at PwC, a global professional services firm, in a national media and communications team. Prior to this, she spent 14 years at the Australian Stock Exchange in a variety of roles including National Manager - Corporate Relations. More recently, Andrea consulted to Icon Cancer Care and Foundation, Australia’s largest private provider of cancer care, creating and delivered communications’ strategies to raise the profile raising of ICF and ICC.
Andrea is a strong supporter of QBI and the work it is carrying out on understanding brain function in both the healthy and diseased brain.
Scott McDonald
Scott McDonald has been a partner at Apiary Financial for more than a decade, providing advice, assistance and support to small to medium businesses operating across a range of industries.p
Previously, Scott was a Director at PricewaterhouseCoopers where he gained a broad range of experience working with large corporate clients providing audit, taxation and advisory services both in Australia and the United Kingdom.
As Lavinia Codd’s husband, Scott feels strongly about the importance of fundamental science.
Garry Waugh
Garry Waugh was a partner at PwC Australia for 20 years and is now retired. Garry was a business builder in the Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne markets who assisted companies to identify and receive incentives for undertaking Research & Development activities to obtain government grants and funding. His focus was on maximising claims and benefits while minimising risks.
Garry is committed to the idea that through fundamental scientific research we may discover new treatments to improve the lives of those affected by neurological disorders and has joined the QBI Discovery Advisory Board to provide a corporate lens to fundraising.
