Senator Helen Polley, Senator for Tasmania, has this week praised the Queensland Brain Institute (QBI) in a speech to Federal Parliament, highlighting the Institute’s collaborative approach and the global impact of its neuroscience research.
Reflecting on a recent visit to QBI’s Clem Jones Centre for Ageing Dementia Research, Senator Polley described touring laboratories to learn more about the Institute’s work to better understand and treat neurological diseases.
“One of the institute’s greatest strengths lies in its spirit of collaboration,” Senator Polley said in Parliament, noting QBI’s partnerships with universities, hospitals and research organisations across Australia and around the world.
As Co-Chair of Friends for Dementia in Federal Parliament, she was particularly interested in the dementia research currently underway at QBI.
Describing her tour as “a bit like speed dating, going from one professor and one lab to another,” Senator Polley said the experience compelled her to highlight both QBI’s depth of expertise, and the global respect earned by Australian researchers.
